Many club members enjoy showing their bikes and attending shows throughout the year.
For many years we organised our own show at local locations, these were well attended by not only our members but by other local bike clubs and individuals. Sadly, a decline in attendance and a lack of support for organising means we no longer hold our own show. If anyone would like to step forward to reinstate our show, then please speak to a committee member.
Our main event during the year is now the Barrow Festival of Transport, which is held in Barrow town centre in July. A large well attended event that brings together all types of transport from classic vehicles to modern emergency services, a small fairground for children helps promote it as a family event. The vehicles are displayed on a paved area of the town centre and shoppers and enthusiasts mingle amongst the vehicles. Two of the clubs committee members are involved in the planning and organisation of this event.
With nearly every small town and village in the area holding various fates, galas and classic vehicle shows during the summer months, there is a lot of choice for attending events. Many members or their partners are involved in the organising of these and as such there is often a request from a member or a friend of the club for us to put on a display at these events. If you see an old bike at an event in the Furness or surrounding area there is a very good chance it belongs to a club member.
The Cumbria Steam Gathering held at Flookburgh each year is another popular event where we have a large presence, with several members camping for the weekend to display their bikes and enjoy the show, there is always room for a few more to join in.
If shows are your thing, you’ll find other members that are just as keen, and you could quite easily find yourself stood in a field displaying your bike every Sunday from May to September with other likeminded people.
